I think that when a bipolar person's brain is calibrated correctly through medication, the person who emerges can successfully benefit from therapy. A delusional, violent, unmedicated person will not benefit from anything because the genetic chemical imbalance is torturous. The patient is in pain.
This new take on what we've known for years about the benefits of certain psychotherapies for people with bipolar is a good reminder to practitioners, administrators and policy-makers who've been swayed to the meds only approach favored by managed care. Both are needed by most people with bipolar!
